I am excited to share with you today the Little Group office designed by Mim Design Studio based in Australia. They have now graced the cover of 'Inside' design magazine, with beautifully resolved design and attention to detail, its no wonder they are sparking a lot of interest. The space has a classic modern feel to it with the combination of materials and the hero of the project (for me) the bespoke light fittings. Keep your eyes open for more great work from Mim Design, one to watch!
Located in South Yarra Melbourne, Little Group Office reflects both the Group’s understanding of the residential development market, and the innovation for which they are known. An anchoring monochromatic and neutral palette adopts the philosophy of comfort and feeling of a residential home; to create a personal yet timeless workplace environment.
From the designers:
Our client brief was to create an interior environment that was ‘comfortable and not too corporate’. As a studio we set out to create a space that reflected the business itself. Little Group is renowned for residential property development so it was important we created an interior that reflected a semi-residential nature.
Clean architectural lines create a sense of large scale proportion, while a series of correlating black frames highlight the divisions, providing privacy and distinguishing staff zoning. Throughout the office, efficient planning ensures spaces are light-filled and well-proportioned, whilst maintaining a fluidity from one space to the next. Custom details such as the use of a monochromatic and neutral palette of timber floors and off-white walls, combined with custom brass ‘Pipe’ and ‘Crate’ pendant lights and ‘Sleeve’ handrails were implemented throughout the office. These unique details, in conjunction with the materials palette, work together to ensure the space remains both practical and individual. All design elements and finishes were items we could all comfortably live with, in our own homes.
The fit out was created and designed within budget and the process of working with ODC as project managers and builders was highly efficient and supportive.
The Little Group Office explores the design of ‘corporate’ in a different way, by embracing a residential feel, to create a ‘home at work office environment’. The interior embodies the Australian preference for a casual and comfortable workplace. The process of working with a developer client on their workplace was a valuable experience for us to gain insight into their business.
